AURORA GARAGE DOOR SPRING REPLACEMENT BY VILLA
Our Technicians always get tools needed acquired and eyes are protected before starting project. Winding bars we used to set cables. Drums wrap around torsion tubes. Cables wrap around drums. Bearing plates should always be changed with springs. Flag brackets are to be checked but most likely will not need to be changed since it's part of the tracks. Rollers and Hinges are checked next.
Safety first at all times so we unplug the opener. Once the motor is unplugged we can switch from a single spring system to double. 2 springs means more lifespan and better functionality. When the garage door drops on it own, it means there is a spring problem. The door should balance when suspended after lift. If door falls or lifts then it means it needs repair.
We then manually release the opener and use winding bars to unwind springs. Making sure to be on safe side of spring ( the outside facing middle) to avoid serious injury. We then can unwind the spring cables to where they are loose and falling off. We absolutely never replace with tension on cables. After we can take the spring off of the center plate and loosen drums to get spring off.
We then pull the spring out and put the new one on. When installing new springs we always make sure right side is on right by color matching. Center barring is next to be done. We like to replace with metal bearing to maintain a longer lifespan. Next we will slide on the bearing into the belonging spot, put the drums back on, and put back on the bracket. This is slid into the hole, then we take care of the end bearing plate. Next we bolt the springs together. We make sure the cable slides in correctly and wrap around outer layer then tighten down the bolts. Next we can make sure to give cables tension next. Make sure cable is not caught on anything is the next step. We tighten the springs to a full revolution for every foot of the garage door. Cables are set and springs are all wound. Balanced door when lifted means success and finish of repair. When door is rolling right, we make sure we have tension on both sides when the door is all the way lifted to the top. Cable tension at top is not good on springs for the life of the door so make sure to check. Ensure garage door doesn’t go too far when opened and another check. This will cause the springs to wear prematurely.
At Villa Garage doors we service garage door broken springs
The door won’t open. A couple things to take into consideration are as follows. First thing to do is check for a gap in the spring. We take tension off second spring. Take winding bars and release tension from spring. We take cable out from drums and slide the drum down. We then release on both sides and take other drum off. Then we take off the other spring on right side. Then drums get put back on. Then slide off the plastic center bearing. Change with commercial steel center barring. Cycle rate is higher so it will last longer. We realize it also helps torsion shafts from rubbing your center bracket.
